AN ORGANISATION that offers free transport to elderly and disabled people wants residents to know it is available to everyone who lives in the Blacktown Council area.
Blacktown Community Transport has changed its name to Easy-Go Connect as part of a rebranding aimed at expanding the service to more people. It has also called for more volunteers.
Chief executive Susan Heyne said the Seven Hills-based non-profit organisation decided to change its name following market research.
“We found that many people thought that they had to live in the Blacktown suburb to use our service, and that’s not the case,” she said.
“Presently we service all 48 suburbs in the Blacktown local government area.
“The new branding of Easy-Go Connect, we believe, will encourage more engagement and usage of community transport.”
In addition to changing its name, the organisation is calling for more volunteers.
Ms Heyne said volunteers were needed to drive the shuttle buses and to help clients when they were in the vehicles.
She said being a volunteer at Easy-Go Connect was very rewarding.
“When you help someone who can’t walk and the only time they go out is when they see you, that’s the biggest reward,” she said.
Ms Heyne said helping clients get to social outings was just as important as making sure they reached medical appointments.
“Because our clients are people who can’t access other forms of transport, we are the thing that gets them out of the house and into the community,” she said.
“We ask our clients in surveys how they would manage without us and they say they wouldn’t cope.
“We do keep people connected to their community and enable them to live healthier, happier and longer lives.”
