A man who allegedly fatally stabbed his wife at their western Sydney home has returned to court almost two months after her death.
Baltej Singh Lailna, 31, appeared via video link at Penrith Local Court today after being charged with murder over the alleged stabbing death of his wife Kamaljeet Sidhu, 27, in Quakers Hill on May 20.
Police allege Mr Lailna stabbed Ms Sidhu in the neck with a kitchen knife in an alleged domestic violence incident at their Ramona Ave townhouse at about 6.30pm.
Ms Sidhu was allegedly found by her brother, who lived with the couple at the home, in a pool of blood. She died at the scene.
The couple had been married for four years and had moved to Australia from India two years ago on student visas.
Mr Lailna’s defence solicitor referred to difficulties in communicating with him due to his limited English skills.
“He speaks little to no English,” the defence said.
A Punjabi interpreter was used to aid in Friday’s court proceedings where Mr Lailna appeared via audiovisual link from custody.
He did not apply for bail and it was formally refused.
He was quiet during his appearance and thanked the magistrate before returning to his cell.
The matter will return to court in August.
