Arnott’s Biscuits has commenced work on a new $65 million state-of-the-art automated warehouse in Huntingwood.
Blacktown Mayor Stephen Bail and senior representatives from Campbell International turned the first sod at the site of the new facility on June 13, located in the booming industrial precinct.
The new facility is expected to more than quadruple warehouse storage space from 6000 to 28,000 pallets, with deliveries across the state to be managed from the site.
The move comes almost two years after the opening of Arnott’s multi-pack centre in Huntingwood.
An Arnott’s spokesperson said the development was expected to streamline the company’s logistics as well as provide a boost to safety, productivity and quality.
Vice president of supply chain at Campbell International Craig Funnell said the new facility would help secure the future of manufacturing in the region.
“(Tuesday’s) ceremony marks the next step in our ongoing commitment to innovation and future-proofing our business,” Mr Funnell said at the sod-turning ceremony last week.
“Investment is a key element of Arnott’s continued success, ensuring we continue to operate effectively in a global market, while the flow-on benefits to the country of an investment of this magnitude are significant.”
Mr Funnell said the fully-automated facility would be equipped with the latest technology and help boost Arnott’s place in the global market.
“For Arnott’s, manufacturing in Australia is part of our DNA,” he said.
“We proudly employ over 2000 Australians and more than 99 per cent of our products sold in Australia are manufactured in Australia using quality ingredients like Australian wheat.
“Arnott’s supports farmers and local businesses within Australia, spending $500 million each year on raw ingredients, packaging and other services.”
The new warehouse will take the company’s total investment in its manufacturing infrastructure in Australia to over a quarter of a billion dollars in the past six years.
