Tributes are flowing for a “good soul” who was allegedly stabbed to death at a home in southwest Sydney.
James “Jamie” Pakis, 34, was allegedly murdered at a Lakemba St home at Belmore on March 15.
Police were called to the home following a reports of a concern for welfare, where they found Mr Pakis with multiple stab wounds.
Jonathan Isaac Woods, 21, was later charged with Mr Pakis’ murder. He has been remanded in custody and is expected to face Burwood Court on May 14.
Tributes have been flowing online for Mr Pakis in the wake of his death, while an online fundraising campaign has been set up to cover his funeral costs.
A close friend, who has asked not to be named, wrote the GoFundMe description with the help of his partner, Alicia, whose surname has been withheld, and said Mr Pakis was “a big part of the community”.
“Whether you loved him, argued with him, or just sat back and laughed at his antics, you knew he was one of us,” he wrote.
“He was sharp, relentless, and unapologetically himself — but beyond the shit talk, he was a good soul who cared about the people around him.”
Alicia posted that Mr Pakis died on the date of her anniversary with her partner.
“(My partner) and Jamie talked every day. He will forever be entwined with our date,” she wrote.
One user commented on the post saying Mr Pakis was “a nice bloke” and that she “(couldn’t) believe he was gone”.
The GoFundMe campaign description stated Mr Pakis’ family and friends were exploring other options to help pay for his farewell, including the NSW Government Victim Support Scheme, which can provide up to $9500 in funding to the families of homicide victims to help cover funeral costs.
“If Jamie ever made you laugh, pissed you off, or even just made this community more interesting, consider chipping in,” the description read.
“Every bit helps. Let’s make sure his mum doesn’t have to go through this alone.”
Mr Pakis’ family and close friends have been contacted for further comment.
