Spooky creatures, witches and eerie ghosts are emerging all over the state as Halloween draws closer, transforming homes into scenes straight out of a haunted film set.
For Brighton East’s Leigh Phelan, preparations for decorating the house start five months in advance, with his family getting together to brainstorm ideas to ensure they have the spookiest house on the street.
Mr Phelan said his family started decorating the house for Halloween out of boredom during the Covid lockdowns but it had since become a family tradition as they aimed to make it bigger and better every year.
Mr Phelan said more than 500 people came to their home trick-or-treating last year.
This year, the family wants to draw even larger crowds, with the home featuring a giant spider, a light-up pumpkin man and a huge skeleton swinging on gallows.
But the Phelan family is not alone.
Victorians are embracing the spooky with orange and black spotted all over the state.
The Herald Sun will be compiling a map of the spookiest houses.
