Vincent Henry Reynolds faced the Wodonga Magistrates’ Court on February 25 for a filing hearing after Wodonga detectives investigated complaints involving multiple alleged victims.

Mr Reynolds, who appeared in court via video link from Hopkins Correctional Centre, has been charged with 17 counts of indecently assaulting a male and one count of indecent assault.

Mr Reynolds told the court he knew nothing about the proceedings when Magistrate Ian Watkins asked him.

Detective Leading Senior Constable Jo Albert told Mr Watkins that she “was of the understanding that charges had been served on him”.

Leading Sen-Constable Albert told the court that Ararat police had served Mr Reynolds with the charges on January 13.

The court heard the former teacher would represent himself against the allegations.

Mr Reynolds taught at primary schools in Ballarat and Melbourne in the 1960s and 1970s before moving to northeastern Victoria where he eventually became vice-principal of Beechworth Primary School.

Mr Reynolds’ matter was adjourned to March 11.
