US election analysis: Why Joe Biden is ‘way past his used by date’ for the White House

The US election still hangs in the balance but such a close contest is not what the Democrats predicted. But is likely president Joe Biden really fit for the White House?

US Election: Vote count chaos as Trump claws back

In trademark Joe Biden fashion, he said something that didn’t really make sense despite his severe conviction that he was being genuine.

“I am not here to declare that we have won,” Mr Biden said on Wednesday night, US time.

“But I am here to report when the count is finished, we believe we will be the winners.”

It is very worrying for America.

This is not the result or outcome the country needed and it’s devastating for Democrats.

It is too close for anyone to claim a decisive victory.

The fact that Republicans are likely to retain the Senate and have made ground in the House of Representatives means Democrats failed to achieve anything like the blue wave they smugly projected.

Biden might end up in the White House and that is problematic for the US.

He may be well intentioned, but he is way past his use by date.

Kamala Harris is next in line and she has not shown any real leadership chops so far. To be fair, her story is yet to be written and hopefully she will prove to be more than she seems to be at the moment if her moment comes.

But no matter what coming days and weeks bring, Trump will continue to be the de facto president among his solidly loyal 45 per cent of the American populace.

He will be the godfather of the Right and he will either run for the top job again in 2024 or spend the next four years positioning either daughter Ivanka or son Donald Jr to take the Republican nomination.

The Democrats got it wrong and they scraped through with Biden.

But the feeble nature of this potential victory means they have squandered a huge opportunity to take hold of the reigns of power.

Trump will say for the next four years that he was robbed.

Democrats gave him that fuel by not picking the right candidate and letting the Orange Menace get so close to snaring a second term.

This has set the scene for Trump to tower over America for years to come.

He will not admit defeat, not when the numbers are this tight.

He will have his fun in the court and possibly end up losing, but his base will believe he was the real winner.

A lot of people in the US were saying in the run up to the election that Biden had to have a resounding victory to really defeat Trump.

He didn’t. And now the social fabric of America is more torn than ever.
