From supermodels to the Kardashians, celebrities issued last-minute pleas to American voters on Election Day.

The race between Donald Trump and Joe Biden for the White House has been the most talked-about election of all-time, with a string of stars including Lady Gaga – who appeared with Biden at his final campaign rally – to Hailey Bieber, Bella Hadid and Cardi B making their presidential preferences clear via Instagram.

While pre-election posts urging young Americans to vote were often “thirst traps”, the mood on Election Day was much more formal, though some stars still did it borderline topless.

Presidential candidate and rapper Kanye West revealed he voted for the first time – and it was for himself.

“Today I voted for the first time in my life for the President of the United States, and it’s for someone I truly trust … me,” the Jesus Is King rapper posted on Instagram, under a selfie in which he wore a mask, a blue hoody and an “I voted” sticker.

It prompted Jimmy Kimmel Live! host Jimmy Kimmel to tweet: “Excited to find out whose acceptance speech will get interrupted by Kanye”, in reference to West’s infamous run-in with Taylor Swift at the MTV VMAs in 2009.

Posing with an “I voted” sticker – which became the hallmark of Election Day selfies – West’s wife, Kim Kardashian, pouted as she reminded her followers to cast their ballots.

Despite her husband’s political ambitions, Kardashian did not reveal who she voted for.

Kourtney Kardashian captioned her Election Day selfie: "Get out there and VOTE if you haven’t already”.

She continued: “Your voice is important. Your vote has power. Every vote counts.”

Posing topless except for strategically-placed “I voted” stickers on her breasts, Chelsea Handler said: “PSA: Democracy means that every vote is counted! If you see something that doesn’t look right at the polls, or need help voting, call the nonpartisan Election Protection Hotline”.

Draped in the American flag, Juice singer Lizzo wrote: “Because of you, I’m still hopeful. I believe in a country that teaches the true history so we can better understand where we live and how we can do better”.

With an Election Day selfie, Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow asked her followers: “How’s everybody feeling out there? #vote”

Kate Hudson did the same. “I know some of us are feeling cross eyed but WE’RE ALMOST THERE!!! STAY IN LINE!!! Let’s go!!!”

The celebrity Election Day push came as American-born Meghan Markle made history by becoming the first member of the British royal family to vote in a US election.

Meghan – who is based in Montecito, California, with her husband Prince Harry and the couple’s son, Archie Harrison – voted for Biden via postal ballot.

“Meghan was an American long before she was a royal. She wouldn’t miss voting in this election no matter where she was living,” a source told the New York Post.

Speaking to Time magazine in September, the Duchess of Sussex said Trump v Biden was “the most important election of our lifetime”.

“Every four years, we’re told, ‘This is the most important election of our lifetime.’ But this one is. When we vote, our values are put into action, and our voices are heard,” Meghan said.
