Prince William will visit New York to give away millions of dollars in a charm offensive set to upstage Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in their own backyard.

The Prince of Wales will take a bite out of the Big Apple just four months after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex set the city alight with claims of a “near catastrophic” high-speed car chase.

Travelling solo, Prince William is not expected to make time to visit his brother and sister-in-law during his two-day visit on September 18 and 19 for the annual Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit.

Kensington Palace announced Prince William, 41, would also attend additional meetings and public engagements during the visit, which coincides with the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Prince William and his wife Catherine, Princess of Wales, travelled to Boston last year and didn’t ink time on their calendar to visit the American family amid a bitter and long-running feud between the Fab Four.

The heir to the throne’s visit to New York could be especially contrasting to the Sussexes, who courted controversy with an appearance at the United Nations in July last year for weighing in on domestic politics and comparing the US government to Russia in a “global assault” on freedom.

In the last Sussex visit to New York in May, the Duke and Duchess claimed that they were chased through the city’s streets for hours in a hot pursuit similar to the one that killed Princess Dianna.

The account was disputed by photographers, the New York Police Department, the city’s mayor, and the taxi cab driver that drove the pair a few blocks.

William’s trip to New York will be his first since 2014, when he visited with his wife Kate.

He will speak alongside former New York mayor, Michael R. Bloomberg, as well as policymakers, business leaders, climate innovators, and previous Earthshot Prize winners.

Founded by Prince William in 2020, The Earthshot Prize aims to discover, accelerate, and scale solutions to climate change by 2030, according to the organisation.

“We need to invest in innovative solutions and new ideas that can accelerate global progress and help repair the planet,” said Mr Bloomberg, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Climate Ambition and Solutions.

“This year’s Earthshot Prize Finalists are great examples of the kind of bold action and creative thinking we need, and our team is looking forward to working with Prince William to support them as they expand their ambitions.”
