President Joe Biden calls himself vice president in latest job title mix-up

President Joe Biden has embarrassingly called himself “vice president” while lamenting about not being able to buy an electric Corvette — in his latest job title mix-up.

The incident happened during a virtual meeting with General Motors CEO Mary Barra.

“I’m not going to be able to do it because I can’t drive a vehicle while I’m vice president,” Mr Biden.

The 79-year-old — who already owns a 1967 Corvette Stingray — quickly corrected himself saying “while I’m president.”

According to US News & World Report, GM plans to release a Corvette Hybrid as early as 2023 followed by a fully electric model.

The latest gaffe isn’t the first time Mr Biden — who was vice president from 2009 to 2017 — has mixed up his job title.

In May, he referred to himself as the nation’s first US senator from Delaware, when he meant to say president.

He also has referred to “President” Kamala Harris on at least four occasions — most recently in January — giving his vice president a promotion to his own job.

The latest gaffe comes as a majority of Democrats tell pollsters they want a new presidential candidate in 2024.

That’s despite Mr Biden saying he intends to run for a second term even after the worst inflation since 1981 has hit the country under his leadership.

The US president’s mental acuity has long been questioned by his Republican critics, with Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas), a former White House physician to Presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump, calling for him to undergo a cognitive test for dementia.

In the 2020 campaign, Trump claimed Mr Biden was mentally “shot”, although many say he’s had a decades-long propensity for gaffes.
