'We are going to increase the attacks': Israel to ramp up airstrikes on Gaza

A 12-year-old Australian child trapped in the Gaza Strip has made a desperate plea to come home.

Yazan Hellis has no idea how he and his mother and seven-year-old sister will get out of the blockaded territory.

He was one of 51 Australians caught in Gaza when it was put under siege by Israel following a Hamas terror attack on October 7.

There has only been 20 trucks of aid delivered since the blockade started, about four per cent of what usually arrives in the territory each day.

“It’s really stressful … like you’ve never been in a war before, so I’m really scared,” he told 7 News.

“I saw people dead on the ground, legs everywhere, arms everywhere … I want to go home back to Australia but the borders are closed and there’s bombing everywhere.”

Yazan said his mother was “really really stressed and scared”, pleading with the Australian Government to get them home. The family, who live in Melbourne, arrived in Gaza to visit family about two weeks ago.

Israel allowed some aid to be delivered through the Rafah crossing on Saturday on Gaza’s border with Egypt.

However, no people have been allowed out of Gaza, with Israel ramping up pressure on the region’s 2.3 million people ahead of a planned invasion in the north of the region.

The Australian Government cannot access Gaza, but has said that anyone who was able to reach Egypt would receive assistance.
