Australian man Ali Shahrouk, 38, is facing trial in Bali for allegedly assaulting a German woman at The Apurva Kempinski Hotel, Nusa Dua.

Shahrouk was pictured last week walking into Bali’s Denpasar Court with another Australian, Muhamed Rifai, who has been charged separately with assaulting a security guard outside Finns Beach Club in a brawl that went viral.

Sharouk and Rifai were handcuffed together as they walked into the courthouse, but are not known to each other.

They are both being held at Kerobokan prison.

Sharouk, from Auburn in NSW, was taken into custody on February 1 by Denpasar Police.

Based on the indictment read out by the prosecutor in the first trial, Shahrouk allegedly assaulted a German woman named Christin Steinrode Tiller on January 29 this year at the swimming pool area of the luxurious five-star hotel.

Several witnesses, including Christin Tiller, Tim Tiller, Charles Thomas Harrison and Karolina Kretek and family, were staying at The Apurva Kempinski Hotel.

At around 11am after breakfast, Christin and the other witnesses and family went to the pool area.

After Christin, Tim and Harrison sat down at the traditional Balinese style gazebo in the pool area, Kretek came over to tell them that Christin’s three-year-old child had been pushed from a high slide by another child, who was around 10-12 years old.

Kretek told the group she had been shouted at by a man named Samer Beckdache.

The man allegedly yelled, “F**king p*ssy, this is not your business.”

After learning this, Christin pushed Beckdache into the children’s pool.

Shahrouk, who is apparently friends with Beckdache, had an argument with Christin, during which she scratched him.

Shahrouk then allegedly slapped Christin’s cheek as she approached him.

Another witness, Kempinski lifeguard Titus Tommy Noe, tried to separate them, and also called security.

Christin was later taken to BIMC hospital in Nusa Dua.

Tim was taken to South Kuta Police station to make a police report.

Based on the medical report, Christin suffered bruises and a fracture of the nasal bone and jaw bone.

“In the examination to witness Christin Steinrode Tiller, it was found bruises because of blunt force,” the prosecutor said. “The bruises can cause an infection and disease that hampered the victim from doing her job temporarily.”

Shahrouk is now facing a maximum of two years and eight months imprisonment.

His trial will continue tomorrow.
