Man allegedly throws brick, threatens residents with knife in horror rampage

The man allegedly smashed a windshield with a brick and threatened residents with a knife and wooden beam in a horror rampage.

A man is accused of a horror violent rampage during which he allegedly threw a brick at a car, smashed a windscreen and threatened residents with a knife and a wooden beam in Perth’s northwest.

Police were called to West Leederville about 6.15pm on Tuesday following reports a man had created a disturbance.

Police allege the man threatened motorists on Cambridge St and threw items at their vehicles, including a brick.

The brick smashed the windscreen of a passing vehicle, forcing the driver to stop on Kimberley St.

The man then threatened the driver and tried to get him to leave the car, police said.

The driver refused and suffered a minor cut to his hand.

The man then allegedly threatened two people walking on Kimberley St with a knife and wooden beam.

Police said he demanded their keys; however, the victims managed to run away.

The man moved to a carport area of a Woolwich St home armed with two knives, according to police.

They blocked off the area and requested a negotiator speak with the man.

The 39-year-old man was taken into custody about 8.50pm and taken to hospital for assessment.

The Karratha man has been charged with one count each of stealing, going armed to cause fear, criminal damage, and aggravated armed assault with intent to rob.

He was also charged with two counts of armed assault with intent to rob and fronted the Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

The 39-year-old was denied bail and is expected to appear in court on October 9.
