Two men have been arrested and two police officers are in hospital following multiple alleged armed robberies in Melbourne’s south on Tuesday.

Two men allegedly armed with a knife entered a tobacco shop on Centre Rd in Bentleigh about 9.25am on Tuesday, demanding a male staff member hand over cigarettes.

The pair fled the scene in a Holden Commodore ute, however the staff member was taken to hospital after receiving non-life-threatening injuries during the incident.

The pair then entered a second tobacco shop in Como Parade, Mentone, a short time later, allegedly stealing cigarettes and jewellery before fleeing in the Holden.

After a brief police pursuit, two men were arrested at gunpoint in Noble Park just before 10.30am.

Two police officers were taken to hospital following the dramatic Noble Park arrest, after the squad car they were driving collided with the Holden Commodore Ute.

The alleged offenders were also taken to hospital under police guard following the collision.

All four received minor injuries.

A 20-year-old Cranbourne West man has been charged with a string of offences, including armed robbery, intentionally causing injury, assault with a weapon, robbery, false imprisonment, theft and handling stolen goods.

He will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later today.

The second man, an 18-year-old, remains in hospital under police guard and is expected to be interviewed by detectives this morning.
