One dead, another injured after being hit by car at party in Kooyong park

A Cilfton Hill woman has died and another was injured after being struck by a car on Glenferrie Rd after a party in a nearby park overnight.

A young woman has died after being hit by a car in Kooyong on Sunday morning.

Police were called to reports of a noisy party at Sir Zelman Cowan Park, off Glenferrie Rd, about 1.10am.

They arrived to witness a group of pedestrians being struck by a vehicle in the car park.

A 24-year-old Cilfton Hill woman died at the scene, while a 26-year-old woman was taken to The Alfred hospital where she remains in a stable condition.

A man was also struck but he escaped physical injury.

The 23-year-old driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene.

The Sunbury man remains in custody and will be interviewed my MCIU detectives on Sunday.

Detectives are investigating whether speed, alcohol and drugs were a factor.

Litter, including alcohol cans, could be seen strewn across the car park and oval on Sunday morning.

Initial police reports suggested there had been an illegal rave in the park, but they later confirmed the incident had occurred following a “gathering” in the park.
