The giraffe head stuck to the outside of a Myer Christmas window in Melbourne’s CBD has been vandalised for a second time.

Police confirmed they are investigating the Boxing Day incident which led to the giraffe’s head to be discarded in a gutter, a block away from the Australia Zoo themed windows and the rest of the animal’s body.

“The damage to the giraffe figure in our Christmas Windows display was a random act of vandalism and has been reported to the police,” a Myer spokesperson said.

“We are taking steps to restore it today and appreciate the community’s understanding as we address this matter.”

The first decapitation occurred on November 25, but Myer worked quickly to restore the giraffe to the same day much to the delight of visitors.

The City of Melbourne said they were aware of the damage to the windows and were working with police and Myer to find the culprits.

It is unclear if the giraffe will be repaired before the windows are packed up on January 5.

It comes after pro-Palestine activists organised a demonstration to disrupt the windows’ launch in mid-November, which led to the grand opening being cancelled.

Police urged anyone with information or CCTV footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
