The devastated single mother of a toddler who drowned in a dam has spoken of her heartbreak at losing her “beautiful cowgirl”, as she explained how the tot made her way to the water through a number of fences in just four minutes.
Aleece Shearer said she and her two-year old daughter Mackenzie were visiting a property in Whroo, near Nagambie, on Sunday morning to see farm animals when the tragedy unfolded.
The mother of one said Mackenzie was being supervised in a fenced area when she disappeared.
She had wandered off into a neighbouring property while Ms Shearer fed the chooks.
The toddler was later discovered unconscious in a dam.
She was unable to revived after being pulled from the water.
Ms Shearer said she was shattered by online commentary claiming her daughter must not have been supervised, explaining there was only a four minute window from when she was with Mackenzie to when she disappeared.
“She was being watched, she has gone through multiple fences in four minutes,” the heartbroken mother said.
“She hasn’t gone through a gate, she has climbed over a fence that hundreds of kids have been secure behind.
“It’s six-feet high, it’s a camel fence to keep out animals, she’s gotten through that.
“It’s more secure than pool fencing.”
Ms Shearer said she was devastated at having lost her “wild child” who “just lit up a room.”
“She was obsessed with her ponies and Bluey and just absolutely loved animals.
“She needs to be remembered for the beautiful little cowgirl that she is.”
A Go Fund Me page has been set up by a family friend to help Ms Shearer with funeral costs.
