Using newly granted powers, two transit officers handcuffed a man who allegedly assaulted three people at a Top End bus stop.

Since September 19 this year, transit officers have been granted powers to ban people they believe have misbehaved while using public transport from travelling on the system.

Northern Watch Commander Mick Fields said a 31-year-old man had allegedly assaulted a passenger and then two Transit Safety Officers while travelling on the bus about 7.30pm on Thursday.

“The Transit Officers advised they had been called to the location on information that a passenger had been (allegedly) assaulted by another bus passenger,” Commander Fields said.
