After whetting our appetites with Tones and I, the Townsville 500 Supercars team has released their full live music line-up including cult-favourite G-Flip and more.

It’s clear the guys booking gigs for the Townsville 500 Supercars are targeting a slightly different audience after the full 2024 music line-up was revealed – to be headlined by Tones and I, G Flip and CYRIL.

If you need a quick explainer, here’s the low-down.

G FLIP is a drummer turned singer from Melbourne who has the Triple J audience and mid-20s demographic by the throat with their ARIA award-winning hard rock-pop style.

CYRIL is a Northern Territory-based DJ who’s been finding bits of TikTok fame by remixing golden oldie songs (think Take Me Home, Country Roads and Sound of Silence) that Europeans are lapping up.

Tones and I needs no introduction, she was the pre-show for P!nk and seasonally dominates commercial radio stations when she releases earworms like Dance Monkey and Fly Away.

All will be performing in Reid Park, near the pit lane, on July 6.

Supercars CEO Shane Howard said this was one of the biggest music line ups ever announced for the Townsville Supercars.

“We are incredibly proud to be offering fans the opportunity to see three of Australia’s most popular acts on stage,” Mr Howard said.

“Concert entry is free with any same day ticket and children of all ages are welcome to attend, which means this really makes the NTI Townsville 500 something for everyone.”

The NTI Townsville 500 is the biggest annual sporting event in North Queensland and has become a staple on the Australian sporting calendar since it began in 2009.

Tones and I has a colourful history in Townsville.

In 2020 the Byron Bay musician was scheduled to perform at Groovin’ The Moo, but the festival was cancelled due to Covid, crushing the hearts of local fans and leaving Tones to vow she would be back.

In 2021 Tropic Sounds booked Tones and I to perform at their festival, but the event was permanently postponed.

It wasn’t until May 2023 when Tones finally got to grace the microphone in Townsville, this time at the Tropic Sounds in Reid Park where she performed alongside Illy and other acts.

Then, in March 2024, P!nk arrived with an entourage that included Tones and I as her opening act. The women performed two sold-out shows in the muggy humidity of the Townsville Stadium in front of more than 60,000 rabid fans.

Sensing there was something in the water in Townsville, Tones and I included two Townsville shows in her upcoming Australia and New Zealand tour, which sold out almost immediately.
