Queensland Fire Department crews have extinguished a semi trailer fire burning on the Barkly Highway on Friday afternoon.

A QFD spokesman confirmed that two trailers were fully engulfed with flames after catching alight, 18km west of Cloncurry, near the Cloncurry Duchess Rd intersection, just after 4pm.

He said two fire crews successfully extinguished the trailers at 5.40pm

It is understood that the semi trailer was carrying an aluminium boat which contained a small quantity of fuel.

One lane of the highway remains closed as dampening down continues.
