The LNP candidate for Mundingburra has revealed a shock cancer diagnosis but that she remains committed to bravely contesting the state elections.

Janelle Poole, a Queensland Police Service officer who has served with distinction in Townsville, released a personnel statement confirming that she had been diagnosed with follicular Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

“While the news was initially quite a shock for my family and I, follow-up tests have been positive and reassuring,” she said on Sunday.

“Thankfully, follicular Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is less aggressive than other forms of Lymphoma and is completely treatable.”

The cancer diagnosis comes just weeks before the October 26 election, where Ms Poole is looking to unseat Labor incumbent Les Walker.

But despite the health setback, Ms Poole remains determined, sharing that her treatment has already begun, and she’s ready for the fight ahead.

“Thanks to the support of an incredible medical team I’m ready to continue my campaign as the LNP’s Candidate for Mundingburra,” she said.

“I am deeply indebted to the staff at Townsville Hospital whose compassion and professional care have inspired me further to represent our incredible city.”

Ms Poole, who ran an unsuccessful Townsville mayoral race in 2016, also thanked LNP leader David Crisafulli and the party team for their support during this challenging time.

“David personally encouraged me to make the best decision for my family and I, and that is the decision I have made,” she said.

“It was very important to me that I shared this news with the community at this time.”

A dedicated police officer, Ms Poole highlighted her commitment to serving the people of Townsville.

“I have dedicated my life to serving our beautiful community with integrity and it’s all of you who drive me to keep serving every day,” she said.

“I remain absolutely determined to be a strong and effective voice for you in the Queensland Parliament.

“There are so many challenges we are all facing right now and I am ready to face those challenges with your support.”

Looking ahead to the election, Ms Poole said she’s ready to take on the challenges.

“...We fight for change. Let’s continue to work hard every day to change the government and change the future of our city and our state for the better,” she urged.
