Three people are being assessed by paramedics following a house fire in Townsville.
Queensland Ambulance Service confirmed the three patients were stable following the ongoing fire on Daniels Street, Vincent, first reported at 10am on Sunday.
Queensland Fire Department said it had received multiple emergency calls to the incident.
A QFD spokesman said three people escaped the home, which was well ablaze.
Four fire crews are on scene.
Queensland Police Service advised people to avoid the immediate area.
Police on the scene said the smoke could contain asbestos and advised all residents to go indoors and close the windows of their homes.
A friend said one of the residents, who had lost everything, was ‘a beautiful caring lady’.
“She collected donations all year round and fed the homeless and helped so many people in need of clothing and food,” she said.
“She would be out making sure that they had food and some sort of shelter.”
She said her friend, who had lost everything and did not have insurance, was selfless.
“At Christmas time she always had presents for children whose family could not afford to buy gifts; She also gave Christmas hampers,” she said.
“She didn’t deserve this to happen to her.”
More to come.
