Man charged over historical sexual abuse in North Queensland
A man who allegedly committed 40 historical child sex offences has been arrested in Mount Isa, ending a five-month investigative operation.

A man who allegedly committed 40 historical child sex offences has been arrested in Mount Isa, ending a five-month investigative operation.
Police allege the 56-year-old from Karumba committed 40 offences towards seven children and two adults in Mackay and Mount Isa between 2002 and 2022.
The alleged offences include 14 counts of rape, 13 counts of indecent treatment of a child, as well as counts of sexual assault, grooming and stalking.
The man will appear in Mount Isa Magistrates Court on Wednesday, following an appearance on Tuesday.
He remains in custody until his appearance.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Shauna McIvor said the team worked tirelessly.
“I commend the victim-survivors for their significant bravery in coming forward and helping police hold the alleged perpetrator to account,” she said.
“Offences of this nature are reprehensible.”
