Townsville police are hunting grubs who targeted a highly respected child centre over the weekend.
Queensland Police Service confirmed that it was investigating following a break and enter at five-star rated child centre Lady Gowrie Kennedy Place Child Centre in Kennedy St, North Ward overnight Sunday, July 27.
Staff are understood to have made the shocking discovery on Monday morning.
An employee referred questions to head office in Brisbane who have been contacted for comment.
A QPS spokeswoman said initial information indicated that an unknown offender or offenders “forced entry to the building by smashing a glass door and causing damage to the property”.
“Investigations are ongoing, anyone with relevant information or vision is urged to contact police.”
The business was closed on Monday but will reopen on Tuesday.
There was clear damage to the main door of the business.
One person at the scene of incident was incredulous that a child centre would be targeted, asking rhetorically, “I don’t know what they would possibly be trying to steal … crayons?”
