Guy “Cliffo” Clifton and Kate Jeboult M to replace Pricey after retirement

Cliffo is joining forces with Kate Jeboult in a new brekkie show for Triple M, taking over – but not replacing – radio legend Pricey.

Cliffo and Kate are joining the Triple M airways and taking over from Steve ‘Pricey’ Price who is retiring after 32 years.

The Townsville locals said they would not try to imitate Pricey, but would instead be “treading our own path” when they host the Triple M breakfast show from January next year.

Guy “Cliffo” Clifton had been hosting the Hit Queensland Breakfast, and said hosting to a state wide audience was positive, but he was excited about returning to entertaining Townsville.

“Townsville is where I met my wife, Townsville is where we had our two children, Townsville is where my home is, my house is, where my kids go to school,” Cliffo said.

“That was the big thing that got me to, you know, sign the dotted line and to do the gig was the opportunity to broadcast home again.”

Cliffo and Kate are replacing Steve Price.

Cliffo said the show had “struck gold” when it partnered him with first-time radio host Kate Jeboult, who is well known through her online news portal Townsville Scoop.

“We have a similar sense of fun and enjoyment and you know, radio is equal parts information as it is entertainment,” he said.

“Kate and I are not out to replace Pricey, you cannot replace an icon, all we can do is just do what we do.

“And because we don’t know anything else, I just hope people enjoy it.”

Kate became attached to the city when she moved here in 2017, raised a family, and became involved in digital marketing and business.

She already had crafted a radio voice and presence when being interviewed by the Townsville Bulletin in her new studio, and felt a mixture between excitement and nerves for her new gig.

“We’re not replacing Pricey and stepping into big shoes … we definitely can’t step into Pricey’s shoes,” Kate said.

“We’re bringing our own pair of shoes, we’re treading our own path, and it’s going to sound different next year but a lot of the principles will be the safe.

“It’s still going to be local Townsville news, it’s going to be entertainment, it’s going to be still great music, it’s just going to be us two boofheads behind the microphone.”
