A much-loved event on Townsville’s events calendar, a celebration of a centuries-old German festival, is returning for 2024.

Townsville Brewing Co have preparations in full-swing for their Oktoberfest 2024 street party to be held on the October long weekend along Flinders Street, with special beer even being brewed for the occasion.

Events and functions manager at the brewery, Alexandra Lindsay, said the 12th annual event will have interstate musicians, Bavarian street food, games, entertainment and the NRL Grand Final on the big screens.

“I think it’s one of the biggest events in Townsville,” she said.

“The street party vibe is very big in Townsville; we love being outside. We love coming together in a sunny environment. Everyone also likes partying on a Sunday and having the day off the next day.”

With a special New World Pilsner being brewed for the occasion as well as the classic Townsville Brewing Co beers, Ms Lindsay said there was something for everyone.

“We are even having an espresso martini stand outside in case anyone needs a caffeine boost,” she said.

Ms Lindsay said the event was a great success each year, with thousands expected to don the traditional German outfits again this year.

“We are expecting around 2000 people to attend and that would be an increase of about 50 per cent on last year. We have buses coming in from JCU and Lavarack Barracks.”

She said Oktoberfest was a great opportunity to have fun with friends and family and let your hair down.

“There’s games that people can play that make you feel a bit silly but are so much fun, and with everyone dressed up in their traditional outfits, it’s just a great time.”

Kicking off from midday and running until 10pm on Sunday October 6, tickets for Townsville Brewing Co’s Oktoberfest Street Party can be purchased on the Eventbrite website.
