The Bachelorette finale served up a question that embarrassingly stumped the final two suitors, but would you know the answer?

The Bachelorette finale served up a question that embarrassingly stumped both Jamie-Lee and Darvid but it is one that many Australians may also struggle to answer.

While this season struggled in the ratings it was groundbreaking by introducing the first Indigenous and openly bisexual woman to be the central figure of the program.

Brooke Blurton, 26, a Noongar-Yamatji woman from Western Australia, has been an inspiration to Indigenous Australians and the LGBTQ communities.

And her starring role on the reality TV show has sparked some important conversations, including whether or not you know what Indigenous land you live on.

It was a question that neither Jamie-Lee nor Darvid knew the answer to despite both pursuing a relationship with an Indigenous woman.

Perhaps more surprisingly they also didn’t know what mob Brooke belonged to.

Brooke’s friend Amy asked Darvid this question first.

“If I said to you, whose land are you on, where you live, can you tell me?” Amy asks.

Darvid waits a beat. “No. No.”

“So it would take dating an Aboriginal woman for you to start to consider that you live on Aboriginal land?”

“Do you know who Brooke’s mob is? Where are you at with your, like, cultural literacy in general?”

“I’m willing to learn, and I’m willing to be a part of it all,” Darvid said. “I think that’s important, regardless. I’d actually really step into it. Like, I’d love to learn about it. I do feel pretty naive and ashamed that I haven’t done the research.”

Amy then asks Jamie-Lee the same question.

“Um, look, not … I am … I understand, and I’m … I’m … I guess I’m as privy to it as I can be. I, um …” Jamie-Lee stutters.

Amy: “OK. So, you live in the Sydney region. If I said to you, ‘Whose land are you on?’... you’d be able to tell me?”

Jamie-Lee: “ … No.”

Amy: “Do you know who Brooke’s mob is?”

Jamie-Lee: “ … No.”

As we know now, Brooke ultimately chose Darvid.

No doubt he is now well aware of what Indigenous country he lives on.
