Eight extra day sailings will be scheduled for early 2025 to in an effort to cut down Spirit of Tasmania’s waitlist.
The additional sailings scheduled in January, February, April and May is in addition to an already announced increased number of crossings scheduled over the peak season.
Earlier this month, Spirit of Tasmania confirmed extra sailings and greater capacity for vehicles requiring high space after reconfiguring the layout of its ships.
This change had cleared more than 200 waitlisted bookings.
In a statement on Wednesday, a spokesperson said the extra capacity would benefit passengers travelling with caravans and high vehicles, significantly reducing waitlist bookings for those customers.
“Spirit of Tasmania anticipates that, by early next week, waitlist bookings will drop to below 100, with many of those remaining holding confirmed bookings and simply seeking preferred travel dates,” the spokesperson said.
The adjustments also responded to a schedule change by SeaRoad Shipping, which will be dry docking one of its vessels and is set to impact Tasmania’s freight services.
Spirit of Tasmania acting chief executive Kym Sayers said they were constantly monitoring the situation and adjusting their schedule to meet both immediate and future demands.
“Our teams across the business have been working tirelessly to make these swift adjustments, and we’re engaging with stakeholders to uncover further opportunities for assistance where possible,” she said.
She said they were working with industry and stakeholders to address freight needs.
