The proposed stadium at Macquarie Point would be a premier entertainment destination capable of “a flexible and safe environment for events of all sizes,” the Macquarie Point Development Corporation says.
The government business enterprise has released an artist’s impression of a concert at the stadium.
Macquarie Point Development Corporation CEO Anne Beach said the venue was being designed with fans, performers, operators and event managers in mind, offering a versatile and user-friendly space for a wide range of events.
“We’ve incorporated a dedicated stage area into the northern stand, providing easy access and proximity to removable seating,” she said.
“The stage will be integrated into the seating bowl rather than on the field, allowing for a flexible configuration to suit different event formats.”
“Our design ensures the stadium can host major concerts and tours while also accommodating smaller festivals and shows.”
The proposed 23,000 seat roofed stadium is to be built at a cost estimated to be $715m to satisfy the requirements of a contract for state-based AFL and AFLW teams.
As a designated Project of State Significance is subject to approval by the Tasmanian Planning Commission and both houses of state parliament.
It is hoped that it will host up to 44 events a year.
Ms Beach said the work had been carried out on getting crowds out of the venue quickly and safely.
“We’ve focused on creating clear exit paths from the field, primarily through the lower bowl aisles and Level 1 concourse gateways,” Ms Beach said.
“Removable seating in specific sections will be removed for concerts, providing direct and unobstructed exit routes.”
