Chris Jordan: Shyanne-Lee Tatnell’s alleged murderer facing three new charges

A North-East Tasmanian man charged last month with the murder of missing 14-year-old Shyanne-Lee Tatnell is facing new charges stemming from a search of his property, it can be revealed.

A North-East Tasmanian man charged last month with the murder of missing 14-year-old Shyanne-Lee Tatnell is facing new charges stemming from a search of his property, it can be revealed.

Scottsdale man Christopher Mark Jordan, 36, appeared in Launceston Magistrates Court on Wednesday via videolink for the second mention of his murder charge and a first mention of three additional charges.

According to documents filed with the Magistrates Court, Mr Jordan’s three additional charges resulted from a search of his Scottsdale property on May 16, prior to the discovery of Ms Tatnell’s remains.

The charges are: failing to comply with prescribed storage of ammunition requirements; possessing a controlled plant or its products (minor offence); and possessing a prohibited import.

According to the documents, the ammunition charge relates to the alleged discovery of four 12 gauge shotgun shells and 58 .223 calibre rounds. The controlled plant relates to alleged cannabis possession, while there were no additional details provided about the prohibited import charge.

Defence lawyer Lucy Flanagan requested all matters be adjourned to November 29 without plea.

Magistrate Simon Brown granted the application.

Mr Jordan was charged by Tasmania Police on July 27 with the murder of Ms Tatnell, who was last seen alive in Launceston on April 30.

Ms Tatnell’s remains were discovered in bushland at Nabowla, 16km west of Scottsdale, on the evening of July 26.

A crime scene was also declared at Mr Jordan’s Buckneys Rd, Scottsdale rental property.

Ms Tatnell’s funeral was held on Saturday.
