The Scottsdale man charged with the murder of Shyanne-Lee Tatnell has made his first appearance in court after his arrest on Thursday.

Christopher Mark Jordan, 36, appeared in the dock before Magistrate Sharon Cure in Launceston Magistrates Court on Friday morning.

Inside the courtroom, the media and public gallery seats were packed with both local and interstate reporters – as well as police officers.

A lawyer asked Ms Cure that Mr Jordan be remanded in custody until August 16 for a 9.15am video link.

No application for bail was made, and no pleas were entered.

Shyanne-Lee Tatnell was last seen crossing Launceston’s Henry St bridge just after 8.30pm on April 30.

On Wednesday, Tasmania Police launched Northern Tasmania’s largest search in decades, featuring 180 personnel from agencies including SES, Qld Police, NSW Police, the Australian Federal Police, and volunteers, seeking clues as to the teenager’s disappearance.

One of the key search areas was a 50 sqkm tract of bushland at Nabowla, west of Scottsdale.

What are believed to be Shyanne-Lee’s remains were discovered just off a bush track near Bridport Back Rd on Wednesday evening by a person searching on foot.

After the discovery, a crime scene was also declared at a Buckneys Rd, Scottsdale property, where police remained throughout Thursday.
