Zakia Bashi Qamber, 55, fronts Elizabeth Magistrates Court charged over hit-run incident
A 55-year-old Adelaide mother who allegedly killed a woman in a hit-run on a suburban road on Tuesday has faced court for the first time.

A mother-of-five who allegedly struck and killed a woman sitting in a suburban road has been granted bail to return to her family – but under specific conditions.
On Thursday, Zakia Bashi Qamber, 55, appeared via video link from the Elizabeth Magistrate Court cells after her arrest at her Hillbank home on Wednesday.
Ms Qamber, was silent as her counsel, Michael Woods, told Magistrate David White that a Farsi interpreter was unavailable, but they could proceed as prosecutors were not opposed to her release on bail.
Police prosecution told the court that they requested Ms Qamber not be permitted in the driver’s seat of a car, not attend any international points of departure and reside at her home address with her husband and children.
The 55-year-old is yet to enter a plea to one count each of causing death by careless use of a vehicle, causing harm by careless use of a vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident after causing harm.
Police were called to the Kinkaid Rd scene on Tuesday morning after reports a woman had been struck by a car and the driver allegedly failed to stop at the scene.
The 40-year-old woman from the Far North sustained serious injuries and died at the scene.
About 8.30pm on Wednesday, investigating police officers attended a Hillbank address and arrested a 55-year-old woman.
She was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, causing harm by careless driving and failing to stop.
The Toyota Prado involved in the crash that Ms Qamber was allegedly driving was found at a Paralowie address and has been seized for forensic testing.
Mr White released Ms Qamber on bail, and she will return to court in April this year.
Outside court, counsel for Ms Qamber, Mr Woods, said it was a “tragic” circumstance.
Ms Qamber, nor her son, commented as they left court.
