A southern suburbs home went up in flames overnight while a large fire at a Riverland tool manufacturing business, a few hours earlier, has caused around $350,000 in damages.

At 3:30am a joint response from CFS and MFS crews on eight trucks and three command cars responded to a house fire on Windrush Rise in Onkaparinga Hills.

A firefighter battling the blaze was treated at the scene for heat stress but did not require hospitalisation.

The CFS believes the fire first impacted the large shed at the back, before travelling along a pergola to the rear of the property.

However, crews contained the fire to the back two rooms, saving the rest of the house from total destruction.

The occupants weren’t home at the time and the damage bill is expected to reach $300,000.
