One of Adelaide’s most infamous pubs is back in action after a $1.4 million revamp, with the Ramsgate Hotel officially reopening its doors this week.
The Henley Beach institution is back with a fresh new look, boasting new and improved dining areas, including a revitalised courtyard and sports bar.
Known for its wild antics including dancefloor milk challenges and the now-infamous 2002 Crows and Power brawl, the Ramsgate is hoping to shake its rowdy image.
“We’ve seen the Hotel through its lively night-life era but it’s nice to see it mature into a sophisticated venue that now offers so much more,” ALH Hotels SA State Manager Ric Torchia said.
“We want the Ramsgate to be the go-to destination for all occasions, whether it be a quiet family dinner or a gathering with friends.”
Their menu has also been revitalised, featuring fresh local seafood and pub classics “with an up-market twist” for all budgets and tastes, Mr Torchia said.
“Our commitment to quality is reflected in every dish,” Mr Torchia said.
“With daily specials like the 250g Porterhouse on Monday nights, the half lobster on Tuesdays, and our $2 oyster happy hour on Sundays – there is something for everyone to enjoy,” he said.
When renovated in 1999, the pub took a comical approach to promote itself, using Max the Merino, the star of the old West Beach Woolshed Function Centre educational stage show, in a series of posters.
While the sheep is long gone, the historic hotel has been an enduring success of Adelaide’s hospitality scene since 1897.
