Guarav Shah, 25 from Northfield, charged with killing 62-year-old pedestrian by careless driving

A young northern suburbs man has faced court charged over the death of a pedestrian in March this year.

Guarav Shah, 25 from Northfield, stood silently in the dock of the Adelaide Magistrates Court as his lawyer told magistrate Brian Nitschke his client intended to contest the charges against him.

Mr Shah was originally charged with causing serious harm by careless use of a vehicle following a collision in Adelaide’s north on March 10.

Just after 10pm, emergency services were called to Hampstead Rd in Clearview after reports a man had been struck by a Toyota sedan.

The pedestrian, a 62-year-old man from Clearview, suffered critical injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

He died in hospital two days later.

Following his death, police upgraded the charges against Mr Shah to careless driving causing death.

Ben Thilthorpe, for Mr Shah, told Mr Nitschke his client would fight the charges.

The matter was adjourned for six weeks, and Mr Shah will return to court in June.

Outside court, Mr Shah declined to comment on the case.
