Elderly man dies in horror crash at Glossop in SA’s Riverland region

An 84-year-old Riverland man has died after a crash at Glossop on Thursday.

An elderly man has died while a 21-year-old driver is assisting police after a horror crash in the Riverland on Thursday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Scott Rd and Jury Rd in Glossop at 4.15pm Thursday, July 4, after reports of a two-car collision.

A Ford Falcon travelling southwest on Scott Rd and a Subaru Outback travelling southeast on Jury Rd collided at the intersection.

The driver of the Falcon, an 84-year-old man from Cobdogla, died at the scene while his passenger, an 82-year-old woman from Cobdogla, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Subaru, a 21-year-old man, and his three passengers – a 24-year-old man, a 25-year-old man and a 27-year-old man – all from Loxton North, were uninjured and are assisting police with their inquiries.

Road closures were in place while Major Crash attended the scene, but all roads had since reopened.

The man’s death is the 46th life lost on South Australian roads so far this year.

The crash happened just hours after another serious crash in the Riverland on Thursday.

The Sturt Highway at Old Calperum was closed to traffic after a taxi and a Hyundai sedan collided.

The road was closed between Berri and Renmark for more than two hours after the crash happened about 12.30pm Thursday.

Two women were taken to a hospital in Berri with non-life threatening injuries.
