Spectators at LIV Golf on Saturday had an unexpected wildlife encounter, as a large brown snake was spotted slithering through crowds at Grange Golf Club.

In a video uploaded to the Golf Gods Instagram page, the snake can be seen trying to escape under, as onlookers congregated, phones out, to capture the moment – some possibly not realising how venomous the slithery creature actually is.

A second incident in a different part of the event was also witnessed over the weekend.

Footage from 7NEWS showed a large brown snake making its way through the lines of a bar precinct and towards punters seated on wooden tables and chairs.

It is not known whether the two incidents involved the same snake.
Venom from a brown snake can cause death in less than half an hour of a bite and is responsible for the highest number of snake bite fatalities in Australia.

Snake deaths are rare though, with only two or three fatalities a year.

A Yankalilla family was terrorised, and their beloved pet cat killed by an eastern brown snake on Australia Day.

The incident is just one of many notable moments from this year’s event.

On just the sixth tee shot of the tournament on Friday, American Patrick Reed sunk a hole-in-one at the famous party hole, which saw him drenched as spectators threw their cups onto the teeing ground in celebration.

On the final day of the tournament, Premier Peter Malinauskas announced an extension to the LIV Golf contract, with the event staying at Grange Golf Club until 2028, when it’ll move to a state-of-the-art course at North Adelaide.
