A druggie duo forced a man to strip naked before they viciously bashed him in a terrifying hostage situation.
Angela Antartis, 26, and Zoran Aligrudic, 44, await their fate for the “extremely dehumanising” attack while fuelled by methamphetamine.
In his victim impact statement the victim told the District Court on Friday that the “worst events of his 25 years of life” left him with nightmares and stricken with anxiety.
“I am scarred from their actions both physically and mentally,” he said.
A prosecutor told the court the victim suffered a number of injuries during the incident in January 2023 at a carport in Kilkenny.
“The victim was detained by both defendants and seriously assaulted a number of times,” the prosecutor said.
“There is no doubt that the victim was subjected to a prolonged attack that was violent, painful and terrifying.
“The offending was also extremely dehumanising as the defendants made him strip naked and even cut off chunks of his hair and beard.”
The court heard the duo were fuelled by vigilante justice after being made aware that the victim was charged – and later pleaded guilty to – indecent assaulting a woman.
“Throughout the offending … phone calls were also made to that woman and the victim was made to apologise to her,” the prosecutor said.
Antartis, of Woodville North, and Aligrudic, of Kilkenny, pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and multiple counts of assault.
Aligrudic also pleaded guilty to commercial drug trafficking and possessing a firearm.
Matthew Christey, for Aligrudic, told the court it was impulsive offending and his client’s decision making was seriously impaired by significant methamphetamine use.
The court heard Aligrudic’s life spiralled out of control following the breakdown of his marriage leading him to using methamphetamine and selling to affray his costs.
“It was absolute chaos in that garage and much of it was being made by both of them as they went along,” Mr Christey said.
“Mr Aligrudic really made no attempt to hide his crimes. He committed these offences at his own home while he was on home detention (bail).”
The court heard Antartis’ childhood trauma led to a methamphetamine addiction and spiralling into criminal offending.
Antartis’ counsel told the court she was seeking drug rehabilitation programs while in custody and wanted to make a new start when released.
Judge Rauf Soulio will sentence the duo next month.
