A southern suburbs businessman allegedly created, uploaded and distributed “invasive” images of multiple women without their knowledge, a court has heard.
Heath Chance Mason, 46, appeared in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on Monday in front of Magistrate Briony Kennewell for the first time following his December arrest. He is yet to enter any pleas to four counts of knowingly distribute invasive images.
Defence counsel for Mr Mason told the court he was seeking an adjournment but asked Ms Kennewell to remove a restriction in his client’s current bail agreement prohibiting him from accessing the internet.
“Mr Mason runs a business with a number of employees, and like all of us, relies on the internet to do his work,” they said.
“The condition in his present terms has prohibited the use of the internet to liaise with me, for example.
“The internet is a fully integrated part of life – it’s very difficult to do without it.”
Ms Kennewell granted Mr Mason’s bail variation request.
On Monday, December 9, SA’s elite JACET officers arrested and charged Mr Mason – the owner of Aldinga and Surrounds Electrical.
It’s alleged he created, uploaded and distributed invasive images of women without their knowledge or permission.
The Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team is a taskforce combining Australian Federal Police and SAPOL.
At the time of his arrest, Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Lyons said there was a “significant quantity of digital evidence to be reviewed”.
“Our specialists are working tirelessly to identify women who may be victims of this alleged offending,” Mr Lyons said.
Outside court on Monday, Mr Mason offered no comment to media as he was ushered into a waiting vehicle.
He will return to court in March.
