Sorell has flexed its muscles against cellar dwellers Claremont to claim a massive victory in the annual Pink Sock Day.

The Eagles never looked challenged thanks to a nine goal opening term to run out eventual winners 26.18 (174) to 10.1 (61).

Eagles’ Connor Smith had a day he will remember, booting a game high nine-goals as Sorell’s run and carry was too much for the inexperienced Magpies.

It wasn’t all doom and gloom for Claremont who are still chasing its first win of the season with Magpies gun Kyden Curtain booting four goals.

The win puts Sorell into third spot on equal points with Lindisfarne and a game clear of next weeks opponent Dodges Ferry.

The Sharks will look to bounce back against the Eagles after a massive loss to the Two Blues on Saturday afternoon.

The two teams met in round four with Dodges Ferry taking a 19-point win in what will look like another hotly anticipated matchup as the finals race is almost a lock as we tick over the half way mark of the season.

In the earlier SFLW clash, the game was called off midway through the third-quarter due to injury.

Sorell were ahead 5.8 (38) to 3.1 (19) against St Virgils and therefore were named winners.

PREVIEW

Claremont will face another tough task this Saturday when they take on Sorell, but the Magpies’ Blake Wood says they won’t be focusing on the scoreboard.

The Magpies are coming off another massive loss against previous winless team Hobart last Saturday and sit on just 21 per cent after the first seven rounds.

They’ll have the chance to turn their fortunes around against Sorell with the senior matchup available live and exclusive on KommunityTV from 2pm.

The Sorell v St Virgil’s SFLW clash will also be available from 12pm.

Wood said despite the losses, the club remained in high spirits.

“We are travelling pretty good in the way we are continually getting around each other and being teammates,” Wood said.

“We know it is another tough task this weekend against Sorell but we aren’t focusing on the scoreboard.

“We have all year and continually will look at winning the small moments and continue to get better.

“We want to be a team that is tough to beat, in moments we have shown that but we haven’t been consistent.

“There is no better time to really string four quarters together than against Sorell.”

The two clubs met previously in round 2 with Sorell winning by 178 points.

It was the Magpies second lowest score of the season, with just 2.4 (16), before they went on an uprising score average of 51.8 for the next five rounds.

Sorell’s Brock Daniels said his club won’t be taking them lightly.

“They have really improved since the last few years which is great to see,” Daniels said.

“What we want is a tight competition and we can see they have stepped up and I don’t think any team will take them lightly anymore.

“That’s the thing, if you take any team lightly, well they can get you on their day.

“We will play our brand of footy and our style and we know it can hold up.”

Sorell are coming off a loss to fellow premiership contender Huonville last week by six goals but Daniels said it was a much closer affair than it looked on the scoreboard.

“If you take out the first quarter, you see just how close the game was,” Daniels said.

“They jumped us and we probably weren’t 100 per cent on in the first quarter, but credit to Huonville they are a really strong side.”

The Eagles are hosting the annual Pink Socks Day for raising funds for breast cancer.
