SECURITY guards at the drug-fuelled Stereosonic music festival at the weekend are being investigated over allegations one of them was taken to hospital after taking the liquid drug GHB while on duty.
The private company which ran security at the festival where Sylvia Choi died after allegedly taking the drug ecstasy is co-operating with police and has also launched its own investigation.
Ten people were rushed to hospital during Saturday’s event and another 120 treated for the effects of drugs as more than 48,000 revellers packed Sydney Showground stadium at Olympic Park.
Reddawn, which had more than 400 security officials on duty, said they took the allegations seriously.
“We do not condone any of our staff abandoning their posts or taking illicit substances with patrons either during or after a shift,” Reddawn Security managing director Simon Auston said yesterday.
“Reddawn Security takes the allegations very seriously and has launched a full internal investigation regarding the alleged behaviour of one of our contracted security guards.”
Police confirmed they have also launched their own investigation.
One former festival security guard has claimed that some guards are involved in selling and smuggling drugs to supplement their income but did not specify which companies they ere contracted to.
“It happens all the time,” he told AAP. “They confiscate drugs and sell them later in the day.”
The former guard said others bring their owns drugs to sell.
“They get there ages before the police and they don’t get checked,” he said.
