It’s the tiny colour change that has sparked a massive war of words.

It was revealed in George Street Beat that Premier David Crisafulli flatly refused to disclose how much the state government spent on changing the colour of the Queensland coat of arms from maroon to blue, saying he would not play “silly games”.

The government quietly changed the colour of Queensland’s coat of arms – from maroon to blue – to align closer with the LNP brand.

“Bureaucrats were left scratching their heads this month after receiving a missive that revealed the “preferred colour” for the coat of arms was blue,” the GSB column read.

“They were told current templates could be used until July when the new ones become available.

“Asked repeatedly about how much the colour change would cost Queensland taxpayers, Mr Crisafulli replied “I’m not playing these silly games”.”

Existing public documents featuring the maroon coat of arms won’t need to be changed, but the blue image will be applied to new publications this month.

The change sparked readers into action, with many slamming the move as a waste of money.

Others, though, insisted it was standard for a new government.

“GSB wonders how many meetings and how much cost went into ticking off the major change and, more importantly, the rationale,” the column read.

I was in the public service for nearly 10 years, we had multiple rebrands, nothing changed, except new letterheads, footers, and a few stuff getting pay rises for new “responsibility”.

These “small” changes end up costing a fortune with changes to letterheads, signs, uniforms etc. Happens every time there is a change in minister - which is a joke.

But it’s for Queensland Red/Maroon NOT NSW Blue. This is just petty ridiculous branding for the sake of change. Such a waste of time, money and effort!

Davie me lad, are you crazy? Maroon is a shade of red, with a significant amount of blue. There is no need to change the coat of arms. You tell the electorate you want to save our money, well, leave the coat of arms alone lad!
