Two Harristown SHS staffers injured breaking up fight

A teacher and another school staff member have been allegedly assaulted by a teenage boy at a southeast Queensland high school.

TWO high school staff members have been allegedly assaulted by a teenage boy while trying to break up a fight at a southeast Queensland school. 

The incident happened at Harristown State High School in Toowoomba about 3.30pm on  Monday.

One of the injured parties is a teacher. 

Police said a 51-year-old staff member suffered facial injuries in the assault which occurred when they were walking a student to the school office.

The Chronicle understands a former Harristown SHS student approached the teacher and a student, allegedly striking the teacher in the face.

The Department of Education, in a statement, said it was aware of the incident, and confirmed two staff members "who intervened were subsequently injured".

"Emergency services attended and one staff member was transported to hospital," the statement read.

"The second staff member reported to hospital later that afternoon.

"The Queensland Police Service is investigating.

"No further details can be provided due to privacy reasons."

The 15-year-old boy was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and was dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.

"Harristown State High School, like all Queensland state schools, is committed to providing a safe, respectful and disciplined learning environment for its students and staff," the Education Department statement read.

"State schools respond with urgency and importance to behaviour that compromises the safety and wellbeing of students, staff and the wider community.

"The safety and wellbeing of our teachers and support staff is paramount, and there is zero tolerance for physical or psychological aggression towards them."

EARLIER: A 15-YEAR-OLD boy has been charged for punching a staff member at a high school in Toowoomba.

It will be alleged at 3.30pm Monday, the 51-year-old staff member at Harristown State High School was walking another student to the office when the  boy approached him from behind and struck him in the face.

The man was taken to hospital to receive treatment for facial injuries.

The boy was charged with count of assault occasioning bodily harm and will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
