WELCOMED rain is falling across the Southern Downs with gauges picking up between 2mm and 27mm in areas across the region overnight.

The highest rainfall in the region fell just east of Karara at Durikai where 27mm has been recorded so far.

Both Storm King Dam and Leslie Dam have recorded 6mm of rain, according to Harry Clark at the Bureau of Meteorology.

"We still have rain there at the moment and there's a fair bit on the radar upstream as well,” Mr Clark said.

"You can expect further showers and thunderstorms over the course of today and into tomorrow.”

Warwick recorded between 4mm and 8mm, depending on the gauge location, and has Stanthorpe recorded 9mm.

Allora, Leyburn and Killarney have seen at least 2mm each but Mr Clark said they were likely to have received more as the rain event was quite patchy.

Showers should continue into Thursday morning and begin to clear during the day.
