Shock discovery on alleged rapist's hidden camera recordings

Police have made a shocking discovery as they trawl through the secret video recordings of an alleged rapist accused of filming women over four years in southeast Queensland.

A CHILD is among the new victims targeted in "disturbing" secret recordings of their most vulnerable moments captured by an alleged rapist who lived under the same roof.

Detectives have identified the child and a 29-year-old woman captured on hidden camera recordings in their home and bathroom.

The recordings were found on hard drives seized off a 50-year-old man earlier this month.

A "spy camera" towel hook was among the variety of secret recording devices the man allegedly used in a four-year crime spree, where he is also accused of raping and sexually assaulting an unconscious woman.

Sunshine Coast CIB officer-in-charge Daren Edwards said the new information meant eight women were captured in the "disturbing" footage.

Police will allege the man filmed women, from their teens to middle-aged, at multiple homes in Maroochydore, Mountain Creek, Bli Bli and Eudlo from 2014-2019.

Detective Senior Sergeant Edwards said the most serious evidence included recordings of the man allegedly raping and sexually assaulting a 23-year-old unconscious woman.

"The victim was unaware of those offences happening until police interviewed her... she was clearly shocked that had occurred without her knowing," he said.

"It is quite disgraceful acts."

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, allegedly used another device to film up skirts of women at a Maroochydore home.

"We fortunately seized these hard drives to identify other victims," Det Snr Sgt Edwards said.

"We are exploring the possibility that there are victims that may have lived in these residences that may be subject of these charges."

Det Snr Sgt Edwards did not comment on whether the offender was known to police.

The man remained in the watchhouse after his arrest on July 15 and will face court again on September 6.
