A mother of three with a knack for baking treats for friends and family has quickly become a regional sensation with her Easter specials ordered in by the dozen.

Leyburn woman Heidi Kruger began and continues running Heidi’s Rustic Country Delights from her home kitchen where she can spend up to 18 hours working her sweet treat magic.

Mrs Kruger said she first started making rocky road, branching out and taking orders from loved ones before opening her business to the general public in 2023.

In the past two weeks Mrs Kruger has received more than 150 orders for her homemade Easter eggs, with a few last-minute orders sneaking into the mix.

Mrs Kruger said she began creating plain Easter eggs before she began receiving an influx of custom orders, which have grown to become her most popular.

Mrs Kruger’s delights extend beyond the country town of Leyburn, about 60km south of Toowoomba with her more than happy to travel to Warwick, Toowoomba and surrounding areas to deliver her goods.

You may even see her at a market or two around the region, with customers sending in orders from as far west as Roma and southeast as Brisbane.

While being a mother and a business owner has its challenges, Mrs Kruger said she’s lucky to have such helpful and involved children who are always eager to have a taste test or two.

“My daughter Shania will get things out and put them in a line for me ready to go into the Easter egg, so we often have a little progression line going,” she said.

Mrs Kruger said if she had to pick a favourite flavour of egg it’s the Turkish delight, noting the Oreo is a particular hit with her children and other customers.

“I’m happy to do any particular order, I’ve had requests for a ginger one, chokito and chocolate freckle,” she said.

A surprisingly popular egg is the liquorice allsorts flavour, an order Mrs Kruger said was one she never anticipated to be created.
