Jordyn Maree Skrinjar, 26, sentenced in Toowoomba District Court for armed robbery and extortion

Jordyn Maree Skrinjar has been jailed for six years for her role in a wild crime spree that included robbing a man at knifepoint after offering him sex for cash, and holding up a hotel at gunpoint.

A young woman has been jailed for six years for her role in a wild crime spree that included luring a man to a park with the promise of sex, before pulling out a knife and robbing him.

Jordyn Maree Skrinjar sat in the dock unmoved as details of her offending were read in Toowoomba District Court on Friday.

Crown prosecutor Abbey Kong told the court Skrinjar met her victim online and over the course of several months their conversations turned intimate, with Skrinjar offering to exchange sex for money.

On March 26, 2024 the pair met up in the pokie room of a Toowoomba hotel before Skrinjar suggested they drive to a nearby park.

“The man was being lured to a location as part of a setup that Skrinjar was in on,” Ms Kong said.

When they arrived Skrinjar’s co-offender allegedly approached the driver’s side window and tapped on it with a large knife, demanding that the man get out.

He refused and drove off with Skrinjar still in the passenger seat.

The court was told she scratched and bit the man before pulling a knife on him and forcing him out of the vehicle.

A short time later Skrinjar and her alleged co-offender drove the man’s car to the Federal Hotel where they used a mallet and handgun to rob the bar.

Mr Kong told the court Skrinjar’s co-accused allegedly threatened to blow a staff member’s head off if he did not open the venue’s till, pokies and smoke machine.

Skrinjar made off with less than $100 in coins before contacting her first victim and attempting to extort $10,000 for the safe return of his vehicle.

Luckily, the man was already at the Toowoomba Police Station where investigators were able to record Skrinjar’s demands.

She was arrested the next day.

Police executed a search warrant of her home, where they found clothing that matched items used in the Federal Hotel robbery, a knife and a phone containing text exchanges with the victim.

On Friday Skrinjar pleaded guilty to five offences arising from the crime spree, including armed robbery and extortion.

Acting in her defence, barrister Tristan Carlos said his client came from a disadvantaged background, having grown up in a home marked with violence and abuse.

He told the court that Skrinjar’s mother was also in jail and that she started experimenting with drugs as a 14-year-old before progressing to methamphetamine in 2018.

Despite her addiction, Mr Carlos said his client had made meaningful steps toward rehabilitation while in custody.

This included completing a resiliency course and a certificate in horticulture.

Mr Carlos added that Skrinjar was part-way through a certificate in salon services and wanted to pursue a career in the beauty industry upon her release.

“There is still promise for her,” he said.

Judge John Allen sentenced Skrinjar to six years in jail after taking into account her plea, youth and prospect of rehabilitation.

She will be eligible for parole on March 28, 2026.

“I think you should understand that while you are being treated somewhat leniently today, you cannot expect such leniency if you spurn the opportunity offered by parole and return to offending,” Judge Allen said.
