A Lockyer Valley man has been remembered for his generosity and kindness, having tragically died while doing what he loved most – helping a friend.
James Gunther died aged 53 when he suffered an inoperable brain injury after falling from heavy machinery while helping a friend load a vehicle onto a truck on April 14.
A recent medical diagnosis meant James could no longer work as a truck driver and was instead volunteering his time.
Close friend and former co-worker Paul Harwood has remembered James for his kind heart and mateship.
“He had very little in the way of assets to give but he would always give freely of his time,” Mr Harwood said.
“He just had a kind, giving nature about him and was always the first person to put their hand up to help.”
Prior to truck driving James worked as an aviation mechanic and remained fascinated by aviation, and particularly vintage aircraft.
Mr Harwood has created a fundraiser to assist James’ partner to provide him with a dignified funeral service.
“To anyone who may want to contribute in the future, just realise this guy only ever wanted to give, he only ever wanted to help,” he said.
“That’s what he was doing at the time of his unfortunate accident, he was simply helping a friend.”
His final act of kindness was giving someone the gift of life, having registered as an organ donor more than a decade ago.
As the circumstances surrounding James’ death are still under an investigation, funeral arrangements are yet to be made.
Donations to the GoFundMe can be made here.
