How Burnett schools compare for teacher student ratios

The schools with the highest and lowest student teacher ratios has been revealed for South Burnett with Taabinga State School rated to have the largest ratio for the region. SEE FULL LIST

The data reveals where teachers have the most students to teach.

THE maximum South Burnett school teacher-to-student ratios sit just above the national average for classrooms.

This is according to an analysis of national data from the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority which reveals the schools where teachers have the most students to teach.

Taabinga State School had the largest ratio for the region of 17 students per teacher, according to figures from 2018.

This is more than any other classroom in the South Burnett, according to the most up to date data which includes all state and private schools nationally.

The national student-to-teacher ratio was 13.5 students for every teacher, according to ACARA.

The second highest student-to-teacher ratios was Tanduringie State School where there was an average of 16.5 students for every teacher at the school.

Blackbutt State School recorded the third highest with 16.3 student per teacher.

In comparison, there was only one teacher for every five students at Cloyna State School, the region's lowest ratio.

This followed closely by Windera State School where there were 6.7 students per teacher.

The figures reveal Durong South State School had 7.2 students per teacher, making this the third lowest ratio in the South Burnett region.

Across the country independent private schools had the lowest student to teacher ratios with 11.7 students to every teacher.

Government schools had an average of 13.8 students for every teacher, while Catholic schools had an average of 14 students for every teacher.

Student-to-teacher ratios do not take into account teacher aides or non-teaching staff at schools, only the full-time equivalent teachers.

Wheatlands State School: 13.9 students per teacher

Kumbia State School: 12.9 students per teacher

Nanango State School: 12.8 students per teacher

South Burnett's lowest student to teacher ratios:

Cloyna State School: 5.0 students per teacher

Windera State School: 6.7 students per teacher

Durong South State School: 7.2 students per teacher

Cherbourg State School: 7.6 students per teacher

Murgon State High School: 8.4 students per teacher

Goomeri State School: 8.5 students per teacher

St Joseph's School Murgon: 9.1 students per teacher

Wondai State School: 9.1 students per teacher

Proston State School: 9.2 students per teacher

Kilkivan State School: 9.8 students per teacher

The Queensland Department of Education says they have invested in more teachers to assist with meeting class size targets.
