In an unfortunate end to the weekend a second house fire in the state’s southwest saw another home destroyed.

Emergency services have been unable to establish the cause of a fire which devastated a St George property at the weekend.

Four fire and rescue crews were called to an address on the Carnarvon Highway at St George, between JE Kelly Rd and Salmon Rd, around 1.40am on Sunday to reports of a house fire.

A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said crews conducted a search on arrival and found no occupants were inside.

Paramedics assessed three patients at the property and reported no injuries.

The QFD spokesman said the single-story residence had become well involved shortly after, and by 3.06am was “completely lost”.

Fire crews had the fire subdued by 4am, and a fire investigator was sent to investigate the cause on Sunday morning.

However, due to the extent of destruction at the property, the investigators were unable to determine the cause.

A home at Pittsworth in the Toowoomba region was also destroyed by fire on Thursday evening, with smoke alarms saving the life of a woman who was asleep inside when the fire began.
